Shield Law Proposal...
I enjoyed reading Dennis Ryerson's editorial today at IndyStar.com, "Shield law needed to protect public's right to know"... while at the same time wondering if he's philosophically including 'bloggers', to also be able to protect their sources.Consider: As information-delivery becomes commoditized via the ubiquitous internet... if Dennis, Mike (Pence) and Richard (Lugar) get their way with a proposed 'shield law', won't pretty-much EVERYONE then be protected from having to tell the truth under oath?
Or will the Pence/Lugar legislation specifically only protect the MSM (mainstream media)? That is, the traditionally more liberal media stakeholders would be shielded, while still holding the new media -- a typically more conservative group -- accountable for truth-telling? It's an ironic twist, especially now that suddenly the new media is holding the MSM accountable for truth, lately.
It'll be an interesting discussion to be sure... and may raise exactly the question Ray Talbert's post raises, about discussing a distinctly Christian stance about privacy & security.
Thoughts anyone?
