Bloomington pastors writes about the passing of Kenneth Taylor

"Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old." -Proverbs 23:22

Bloomington Pastor Tim Bayly writes about the passing of his father-in-law, a great saint among evangelicals, Kenneth Taylor... founder of Tyndale House Publishers.

"Ken Taylor was my father-in-law, and what a wonderful father-in-law he was!"

["Kenneth respected the Word, but he wrestled with archaisms in the King James Bible—a certain portent of future editorial tasks. As publisher and writer, he would similarly honor the Bible and its effective communication." ...excerpted from Christianity Today]

"Ken was known around the world as the translator of The Living Bible, which sold more than 40 million copies...

He began his translation work in the early 1950s, when he would paraphrase portions of Scripture for use in the family’s daily devotions. Much of this work was done on the train as he commuted between Wheaton and Chicago. The result of that early work was a book called Living Letters, which was a modern-language paraphrase of the New Testament epistles. He couldn’t find a publisher who was interested in the project, so he decided to publish it himself. Living Letters went on to sell millions of copies after Billy Graham began giving copies to his television audience. Ken paraphrased the rest of the Bible over the next nine years, and The Living Bible was published in 1971. It was the best-selling book in America in 1972 and 1973."
