Religious discrimination suit filed against Indianapolis Star
(Indianapolis) -- According to documents received today from the office of John Price, Attorney, suit was filed yesterday in U.S. District Court against Gannett Co., Inc., owner of the Indianapolis Star, alleging religious, age and racial discrimination.Complaintants James Patterson and Lisa Coffey are described in the suit as as people with strong and sincere Christian religious beliefs. Both cited hostility by management toward Christianity and Christian employees of The Star. The suit also accuses the Star of "displaying strong disagreement with anyone who had a Biblical view of homosexuality", and is said to have "implemented a policy and practice of encouraging, favoring and printing news coverage and editorials with a positive slant on homosexuality and of disfavoring editorials with a positive slant on Christianity".
The suit cites numerous awards won and positive evaluations over the years by both complaintants.
Patterson, a 51-year old African-American man also cited age and racially related forms of discrimination.
