Somebody Cares, Tampa Bay was established to unify and mobilize the church across denominational and racial lines utilizing all the key components that are needed to effectively reach and evangelize the Bay area for Christ. It has equipped and supplied the church with resources through many projects and events.
Somebody Cares, under Daniel’s direction, has established seven monthly pastors’ meetings, written and signed the Covenant of Unity, led "The Year of Answered Prayer,” and helped with the Billy Graham Crusade. It has also established an annual Compassion Appreciation Banquet for compassion ministries and became the official outreach center for Operation Blessing trucks of food and has distributed over 10,000,000 lbs. of food this year. Somebody Cares was able to see over 500,000 Books of Hope distributed in the Tampa Bay area. Somebody Cares has also been active in putting on evangelistic concerts, such as Raise the Roof. This evangelistic concert draws 5,000-18,000 annually. Just recently a Back-to-School giveaway was done with 23,000 backpacks distributed.
Somebody Cares also conducted the Supper Bowl 2001 prior to Super Bowl XXXV. This was a one-day event to reach out to the community in practical ways with food, clothing, and health and educational needs. Between 10,000 -12,000 attended with over 1,400 volunteers and 1,210 decisions for Christ. September 20-27th, 2003 the 3rd Annual CareFest 2003 “A Week of Caring” was held. 25,000 care packages were distributed into the local neighborhoods through organizations, ministries, businesses and churches. The new radio station in Tampa Bay, “The Word”, gave free one-minute Care Moments where ministries described their work in the community. During this week volunteers worked on 75+ projects. Each year there is a Care Cup Challenge between Tampa and St. Petersburg to see who brings out the most volunteers to work on the city projects. The Care Cup Challenge was won by St. Petersburg this year for having 450 volunteers come out and serve. The Care Cup sits in the St. Pete Mayor’s office. The Hunger Strike Force outreach ministry, through Somebody Cares Tampa Bay and partners, is designed to help feed the hungry in the Tampa Bay area. To date we have distributed over 4,000,000 lbs of food.
