Web streaming for free
Snow. Sickness. Distance. All of these can keep church members apart. But what if there was a free way to include them?
Last night I set up web streaming for free. While I haven't extensively tested this setup, I have posted a rough draft of instructions.
There is no substitute for face to face personal interaction (cf. 3John 13-14: "I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face."), but when that is not possible, perhaps a web stream would be helpful?

Can you talk me through this? I think it's a great idea!!
I'd be happy to help however I can, but I appreciate and resonate with Sam's comments.
This is a niche setup and many churches / groups would be better served by on-demand content.
My thought behind the web streaming was simply as a possible solution when someone from your small group is sick and can't attend or for people that can't make a Sunday gathering (if you have a small church -- for indeed the bandwidth would be eaten up quickly!). I apologize for not making that clearer in the post.
Regarding the Mac aspect: Darwin Streaming Server is available for a number of platforms. Hence if one could find a substitute for QuickTime Broadcaster (QB), this system would work.
If there is not a QB substitute for other platforms, one could perhaps borrow a Mac from someone or an organization could purchase a modest one (such as MacMini).
Regardless, my intent was simply to show that live webstreaming was accessible to even the most humble of budgets.
Now I just need to experiment more and see how it works in real life!
Thanks again for comments!
