FHL Day July 25, 2006
FAITH, HOPE & LOVE STORIESJuly25
1. Castleton / Nora churches today were involved in a variety of outreaches; their FHL theme is “Flex and Flow”: Some mission projects were: At Miller Merry Manor serving lunch to the employees (and the elderly they serve everyday); also handing out flowers to the elderly; ice cream social in the assisted living area; people were invited to bring their talent to entertain, and to just hang out with the residents.
The Gleaners Food Pantry was set up in the parking lot of 1st Baptist Church; also handing out free snow cones to the children. One local community missionary who owns a farm and in the summer is seen driving a truckful of corn on the cob, delivered her corn to 8 different fire stations.
2. Carmel/Westfield/Zionsville area—lunch was delivered to policemen; the curbs at Carmel High are being painted (even by area youth from rival high schools!); an entire family took a day off from work to mulch trees together. And yours truly, the FHL media team, had the opportunity to meet and pray with a city urban forestry worker who is looking for a more long-term job and a place to live.
3. Southside—Tonight about 200 people gathered at New Hope Church in Greenwood to praise the Lord and then go out into the community to share God’s love through trimming bushes, painting, refurbishing a mobile home, distributing clothes, visiting a nursing home, cleaning restrooms, and in many other ways.
4. Noblesville/Fishers- The group today had 8 different churches, of all denominations represented at one location, over 25 missionaries being the hands & feet & heart of Christ. That included 3 senior pastors, many adults of all ages, part of a youth group, 1 college student, several retirees, and many families with young or no children! We had several languages being spoken. Above all this, there was a sense of unity, that we were all a part of one group - the family of Christ. I heard once that "Diversity is proof of the Holy Spirit at work in the world." We were diverse in age, culture, language, ability, skill, interest, and denomination! All working together to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ. THIS is faith in action!
5. Westside- The local community missionaries is the Westside did light construction and painting. Their number is increasing everyday.
"We are just so privileged that we are part of what God is doing in our communities".
