A Willing Heart
1 Chronicles 21:24 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.==================
We have a picture of what God desires from us as far as sacrifice… in 1Chronicles, chapter 21, David is told by the Lord to go and build an altar to Him at Ornan’s threshing floor to stop a plague caused by David’s sin. When David asks Ornan for his land, etc., Ornan tells David he can have it, but David replies with verse 24: that he will not give to the Lord that which does not come by cost to him.
This is a picture for us to learn from – God doesn’t want from us what doesn’t cost us anything. He wants what costs us EVERYTHING! He wants our lives. If we really want to go to that “next step” in our walk with God, in our fellowship and intimacy with the creator of the Universe, God wants what will cost us the most – our hearts!
Picture a father with his little child. He wants the child to hug him but the child won’t until disciplined severely – that hug now doesn’t mean much to the father, does it? In the same way, God doesn’t want us to give what we have to him grudgingly – He wants it willingly. If we desire to give our all to our Father in Heaven in response to His goodness, we must give God our hearts, our lives, and all that we are from a pure heart and a desire to please Him.
The cost to us, if we want to follow hard after God, if we want to be in that “place” where He will use us, is that which is most costly of all – our will. Giving up our heart and our life means giving up our will for our lives and allowing God to take control. It means allowing God to direct our steps and lead us wherever He desires. The cost for us is to willing lay our lives on the altar of sacrifice as our reasonable service because of ALL that God has done for us.
Pray with me that we see God’s goodness and count the cost of our lives as a worthy sacrifice to Him…
