I will sing of mercy and judgment

Psalms 101:1-8 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. 2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. 4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. 5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. 6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me. 7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. 8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.
=======================

Psalm 101 speaks to us of walking in holiness. David tells us in verse 2 that he will behave himself wisely and walk with a “perfect” heart which means a heart that is turned completely towards God. David continues by giving us examples of walking in holiness. He tells us that he’ll not allow wickedness before his eyes, that he’ll walk without a froward heart and that he won’t talk badly behind another person’s back which he calls prideful, and that he will only hang out with those who are faithful to God.

What can we take away from this? We can infer that NOT walking in holiness is unfaithfulness to God. We can see that things which we think are simple errors are big in God’s eyes. We can make the same choices as David...

What do we allow before our eyes? Have you watched anything with indecency or violence lately? Read a steamy romance novel or gone into an establishment with scantily clad women? ...Have you criticized someone or spoken badly of them behind their back? ...Have you walked around in a pity party saying “oh, woe is me”?

God desires for us to make the choice to not “yield our members to unrighteousness” (Rom 6). The Epistle of James tells us that to “know to do good and not do it is sin” (Jam 4:17). Paul told Timothy, “let everyone who names the name of Christ, depart from iniquity” (2Tim 2:19).

The question for us is: are we obeying the voice of God and following hard after Him and His desires or are we following after our own sinful LUSTS and PRIDE?

Pray with me that we choose to walk with a perfect heart towards God...
