The little foxes

Song of Solomon 2:15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
===============
The song of Solomon is a love song between Solomon and his first love, Tirzah. In chapter 2, Tirzah speaks of “taking the little foxes that spoil the vines”...this means removing the distractions and those things that take away from the relationship.

This book, the Song of Solomon, is often thought of as a picture of the groom and his bride – Jesus and His church. As such, we have the same exhortation that we should remove the distractions and those things that unnecessarily take away from our relationship or walk with the Lord. Jesus, himself, told us the parable of the sower in Luke chapter 8, where He spoke of four types of soil meaning the four different results from sowing the Word of God to the world.

In this parable, some don’t get saved (the seed on the way side), some have an “experience” or “emotion” from which they think they might be saved (the Word upon the rock), some get saved but don’t bear fruit in their walk because they are choked out by all of the weeds and thorns (which represent the cares of this world that take away from our walk with the Lord) and finally, the seed that falls on good ground and bears good fruit.

The little foxes in Song of Solomon chapter 2 are the same as the weeds and thorns in Luke chapter8 – how important it is that we see how very detrimental the cares of the world can become as they relate to our walk, our intimacy and our friendship with God. When our desire for more pleasure or more money or more power or...when our desire for “more” causes us to lose sight of our Lord, then “more” is definitely “less”!! All of our treasures here on earth will amount to NOTHING in the sight of eternity. We must have the eternal perspective! How is getting that promotion or that boat or that raise, etc., going to bear fruit that will have everlasting effects? Will it grow my relationship with my Lord Jesus, will it edify the church, will it cause many to come to salvation, will it store up treasures for us in heaven? If not, is it really worth our time and effort?

Pray with me that we rid ourselves of the little foxes that take away from the intimacy we might have with Jesus...
