Daniel purposed in his heart...

Daniel “purposed” in his heart that he would not defile himself with the things of his captives (the Babylonians). He made the choice to follow the desires of his LORD and not the world around him. Even when forced to serve the king, immersed in the ways of these strange people and with his sustenance (and life) on the line...Daniel chose God.
We have the same choice every day...the choice of following after the world’s ways or God’s. We are to be in the world but not of the world. Our life is one of choice but the heart of God for our lives is His way – just as the father knows how to keep his child safe, so does our Father in Heaven know how to keep us safe. Our safety is more of a spiritual one, however, as the way of the world is one of idolatry and greed, lust and deceit, power and money and all that will hold us back from God when they become more important than God.
Daniel “purposed” in his heart – have we? Do we wake up and purpose to follow after God this day? Do we ask for our daily allotment of the Holy Spirit from God that we might have the power to not conform to this world and to allow our hearts to be transformed to the next?
We all have a choice...we can walk in our own ways – the ways of the world, or we can choose to follow God. Does that mean we’ll be perfect? No. The Christian walk is one of falling down and getting up and each time we do get up we should purpose anew to not yield our members to unrighteousness but to the Spirit of the living God. Paul tells us to walk in the Spirit and we will not fulfill the lusts of our flesh. Are we walking in God’s Spirit? We need to – He is the only power that will keep us from the bondage and depravity of this world.
Pray with me that we “purpose” in our hearts to walk in the Spirit of the Living God every day of our lives...

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
