Indiana Poverty Stats... including some unincluded ones

IndyChristian Editorial...

Here's Tim Evans' recent story at IndyStar.com... "Indiana Poverty Stats"

The article mentioned some obvious potential solutions...
"What this suggests is that if you can invest in things that reduce poverty -- things like education and job training, raising the minimum wage and expanding the earned income tax credit -- there might be a big economic return."

What the article DIDN'T do, though, was link to the underlying ACS stats at Census website. Had they done so, discerning readers might have also clicked down to some very 'telling' stats (most recently available from 2005) which were NOT mentioned in IndyStar article as suggestive of potential solutions...
  • Married Families below poverty line= 4%
  • Unmarried Families below poverty line = 30%
Conclusion: We all need to be discerning as we read. And we need to develop our own capabilities for getting at key data -- we can't count on mainstream media to tell anything beyond the politically-correct version of the story. And we need to be sharpening our new-paradigm capabilities... email, blogs, podcasts, video and social-networking... to get 'Truth' to the people.

P.S... Btw, our Indiana Family Institute friends (at www.VeritasRex.com) have known this for years, and regularly help us all work toward helping Hoosiers focus efforts on creating strong (MARRIED) families.
