Front Porch can open door to better neighborhoods
[An editorial at the Indianapolis Star...]Indianapolis' mayor-elect plans to deploy an old idea in his efforts to confront crime and other problems plaguing the city. In his campaign, Greg Ballard promised to revive the Front Porch Alliance, an initiative created in 1997 by then-Mayor Steve Goldsmith. The alliance brought city agencies together with churches and other faith-based organizations to improve neighborhoods. Goldsmith has described his faith-based initiatives, an approach copied by other communities across the nation, as his most meaningful accomplishment as mayor. But such partnerships have received less emphasis in Bart Peterson's administration.
