Measure yourself... Compassionate?

An ancient definition of the word "reed" use to stand for a measuring rod or in the case of scriptural doctrine, a canon. A canon or reed of the congregation measures its spiritual health, even the individual's spiritual health. But it also says a lot about a nation as a whole and its individuals. This metaphor for measuring the church is spelled out in James 1:27 when it outlines the following: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
