Many a student in the postmodern culture could invite a friend to hear a speaker give a defense of the Christian faith, but could not share their own faith with their friend because of the fear of being labeled as intolerant! Now this is not universal, but it is very common among students. They have no fear of listening to a friend’s story, but do not feel free to share their own if it brings in Jesus Christ, salvation and heaven and hell, judgment; i.e., if it brings in anything that could be considered as absolute.
The problem of sharing our story in the current culture:
There is a presupposition that troubles the follower of Jesus about as much as the culture around them. That is relativism, the view that there are almost no absolute truths that will always be true under all circumstances. And close to this is pluralism, the view that all beliefs are about of equal value. No one has a corner on truth, and you do not want to sound like you do! This presupposition is so engrained in the culture that one has to think long and hard before you would go against it.
