"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus..." (Philippians 2)

This is an excellent talk and response to a very charged topic: "Are moral values necessary in politics?" The point being made is that when one posits the stance: "I don't impose my values on anyone else", you already have...by depriving them of what you truthfully believe. It may not come back to haunt you that day, but it most assuredly will later. It is akin to living a double standard when you do that, no matter how nice and tidy it sounds to those who want to avoid standing for what they believe in. Take the case of the man in the recent news who wrote an entire research paper on Evolution, supporting it, in order to get his degree in Biology, only later to confirm in the press that he didn't believe any of it because he was a Christian! Now he has pleased nobody and done nothing for his integrity for either side. There are just some points of decision in life where the nature of our response must be precise. Otherwise, it misleads those to whom we owe the truth. In retrospect, they will not be happy with our compromise on a conviction and neither will we. Politics is full of emotions, here today and gone tomorrow. But convictions stand the test of time and are admired even by the worst of persecutors.
