The Way of Christ Was Never Meant To Be An Ideal



Let us be straight: Christians are not ideal people. We are not trying to live an ideal. We are, though, called to live a different way from both the inside and the outside apart from this world. We are called to live the Christian life. But how?

It is a very easy thing to mirror the "right" behavior, if we try very hard enough (and certain people do every day) in order to "fit in" with a group or "impress" a person. And if we do, we may feel we have accomplished a lot. We may even get so good at it, we can appear never to make a mistake. Our fellows will think we are just the right sort and give us their approval. Even the world will do this, if our behavior is to their benefit. But this "behavior" can never be maintained in the same place for very long and apart from that, it encourages a certain arrogant self-reliance and prideful independence. But the reality is that everyone eventually will come to a place inside him or herself or outside with another and they will collide.(1) That collision will produce trouble and make our lives and the lives of others very hard and difficult.
