Doug Hairston Named To Lead Front Porch Alliance

Mayor Greg Ballard formally announced Doug Hairston as the director of the Front Porch Alliance today at a press conference packed with supporters who said they are glad the faith-based community program has returned.
Ballard had promised to bring back the alliance, which operated for only about two years in the late 1990's, to connect neighborhood groups, social service providers and the city's resources. Ballard said the mission is to educate people about the services and resources available, connect people and organizations together and enhance the work already being done by faith-based groups.[continued at IndyStar.com]

"City Renews Assistance From Front Porch"
Douglas Hairston said his first objective as the new director of the Front Porch Alliance will be to meet with neighborhood and social service groups to find out how the city can help.
Hairston, whose appointment was announced Monday, said he will rely on community leaders to inform him of their programs' needs. Only then, he said, will he be able to better define what role the alliance can play in improving connections among service providers, community groups and the city's resources.
