Research: Generosity Up

Americans reached a new threshold in their generosity in 2007, for the first time making more than $300 billion in charitable contributions, even as worries about current giving are beginning to mount.

Giving increased by 3.9 percent last year, despite rising gas prices and a year-end dip in the stock market, to $306.4 billion.
