Communion Adjustments Around The City...
[excerpts from the Indianapolis Star...]One of the largest Catholic churches in Central Indiana will suspend some Holy Communion rituals temporarily to reduce the potential for spreading swine flu.
Rex Rund, director of music and liturgy at the 5,000-member Our Lady of Mount Carmel, sent an e-mail to church members Friday stating Communion will be given only through bread and not through the traditional sharing of the cup of wine.
Tayisha McGuire, public relations manager of Eastern Star Church, said it distributes Communion sets of individual packages of wafer and juice once a month, so it doesn't need to make changes. The church has a 10,000-person congregation at three locations, one in Fishers and two in Indianapolis.
