Officials Lead City In A Day Of Prayer...
[from the Indianapolis Star...]About 100 people, many of them top civic leaders, gathered at City Market on Thursday to offer prayers for hope and guidance as part of the annual National Day of Prayer.
Forty thousand events were held across the country, including one at the Statehouse. But Thursday was the first time the city of Indianapolis has hosted an event.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Michael Spears offered a prayer for public safety officers, Brig. Gen. Bryan Hult prayed for fellow officers in the Indiana National Guard, and City-County Councilman Paul Bateman prayed for politicians and elected officials.
Other prayers were offered for nonprofits, the homeless, families and the media.
Councilman Jeff Cardwell said the council's Prayer Caucus decided to host the event to put a human face on those who are leading the city.
"We're putting faces and humans behind all of these different categories. It tears down the barriers that divide us," Cardwell said. "It lifts the city up, lifts the people up."
