UBcafe, FHL Represented Among Mayor's Community Awards
Wednesday, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard honored the recipients of this year's Community Service Awards. 19 residents were honored for their volunteer commitment and contributions.
The event was hosted downtown on the canal at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.
A brick will be engraved with each recipient’s name and placed at the Mayor's Volunteer Plaza at the 11th Street Admiral Spruance basin on the Canal.
The mayor invited the recipients to the skybox for Sunday's game, as this season's undefeated Colts host the Houston Texans. Deputy-mayor Olgen Williams quipped that he would gladly stand-in for recipient Pastor Roosevelt Sanders who wouldn't be done preaching by the game's 1 p.m. start-time.
Among the recipients, Sister Elease Womack was honored for her service in the heart of the city at the Unleavened Bread Cafe.
Also a recipient, Faith Hope & Love volunteer Wilfredo 'Willy' de la Rosa was honored for his FHL involvement among multiethnic refugee groups now living in Greater Indianapolis.
