Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the LORD. "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

There are places all across the world where missionaries need air support as they attempt to reach unreached people-groups. And there's typically a good reason why those people are unreached -- they're nearly impossible to get to.
One of our Indy Christian 'Geeks' is on his way to the mountains of Idaho where Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) now trains these missionary pilots. Jason, Joselyn & Emma Thiemann will be there shortly, as they follow in the steps of Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming, and Ed McCully... the 5 missionaries martyred by Auca Indians on "Palm Beach" in South America. Seven-of-nine of the killers ... and many others from the tribe eventually came to Christ. Tens of thousands of people around the world have now heard the story and 'commit' to go to regions like it.* [Read MAF History and Watch the movie.]
Btw, if you don't think you could have landed the plane in the video, consider actively supporting one of these missionary-pilots who do it every day for the sake of the gospel.
[IndyChristian Shout-out... to our long-time friends at MAF... John & Nancy Hook. John's one of the guys training these pilots out there in the mountains of Idaho. And Nancy has to be the only person I know who was born in Gosport, IN. **smile**]

“May God, the source of hope, fill me with all joy and peace by means of my faith in him, so that my hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (GNT)
Father we confess that You are the source of everything we need. Fill us today with more of You. We ask Your Holy Spirit for fresh hope as we believe to do even greater acts of love and service than ever before in Indianapolis.

In these hard times, Aimee Ector knows where to go for a bargain on everything from chips to barbecue sauce: the Allisonville Road Big Lots store she passes on her way home from work.
They have pretty good deals most of the time," Ector said.
What the Eastside resident may not know is that some of the food now available in deep-discount stores such as Big Lots and Dollar General was once given to the poor by local food banks.
A few years ago, full-service grocery stores and food manufacturers routinely donated food in dented cans or damaged packages to charity, but that steady stream of donations has slowed to a trickle. The grocers and manufacturers that used to take advantage of tax breaks by donating surplus food now can make a profit by selling it to a relatively new type of business known as "banana box" brokers.
They, in turn, sell the products to deep discounters.
As a result, bargain hunters now can buy some products at low prices, but the amount of free food available to the poor has declined, even as their numbers are on the rise.
IndyChristian Ed. Note... See the FOOD needs & solutions wiki-page we're compiling here in the metro area, to help provide collaborative information for churches, ministries and individuals who care about these needs.
Also... Did you notice above how VIDEO adds value to the story? As we approach 'Faith Hope & Love Week' here in Indy (July 20-26), we're putting together a 'Communications Team' for that week to help tell the story, encourage the volunteers and help discover yet more ways we can help meet community needs in the name of Christ.
Example: One project we'll be doing is compiling a video for a particular Food Pantry in the inner-city that needs our help. Moreover, we're helping train neighbors to shoot video, edit it effectively, upload it to the internet, and get it seen near & far. And in the long run, it not only will help the food pantry, but also help build skills, hope and urban/suburban relationships.
Consider joining the Communications Team if you have a digital camera or camcorder... or a blog, a podcast, a Facebook/MySpace/YouTube page from which to help get the story told. In fact, we're doing special VIDEO training for anyone who would like to learn and be part of the team. See the link above for details.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Father, today people are talking about a rough economy. We ask to look beyond our current financial situations and be overwhelmed with Your promise that our light afflictions, our moments of testing can‘t begin to compare to the beauty of Your glory, to the revelation of Your cross. In You we have something that’s more precious than gold.

WASHINGTON, June 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- President Bush today addressed the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives "Innovations in Effective Compassion" National Conference in Washington, D.C., celebrating the achievements of nonprofits from across the country who have partnered with the Initiative to serve millions in need across the country and around the world.
A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, The restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Alric Brown said he couldn't ease into a quiet retirement after a 20-year career in law enforcement.
So the 58-year-old former state trooper left his home in Noblesville to follow his faith -- and his church -- into a Near-Northside neighborhood that is still struggling to break the grip of violence fed by poverty.
Brown is the first resident of HopeSide, a $4 million apartment complex for seniors that is Oasis of Hope Baptist Church's latest attempt to live up to its name in a part of town where hope hasn't always been abundant.
The 35-unit complex, which officially opens today, is situated in a triangle of promise near the intersection of 25th Street and Keystone Avenue that the church has been patching together over the past two decades.
First came the church in 1987, following its move from College Avenue.
It's Friday... and time for the weekly 'prayer siren' to sound throughout our communities here in Indiana. What a great reminder to stop a few minutes especially to praise God for the blessings He's bestowed on us communally. And at the same time pray for our leaders, national, statewide, and especially here in our own communities. Government leaders, pastors, teachers, and other civic heroes who labor diligently... on our behalf.
And importantly, pray specifically for our neighbors.
Moreover, what a great time & way to regularly remind those leaders: we're not just 'saying' we'll pray for you... but in fact when YOU hear the siren each week, you'll KNOW for certainty that you're being prayed for by driven Christians... right that very moment.

"Te cubres de luz como con un manto; extiendes los cielos como un velo." Salmos 104:2.

Last night Shane Claiborne came to Indy on his 'Jesus For President' campaign tour. The unadvertised event packed the house at Lockerbie UMC... balcony, basement & main-floor. No air-conditioning. Standing room only... filled with Christ-followers... 20-somethings, radicals and the simply-inquisitive... all listening intently.
It took me back more than 30 years ago when my wife & I were 25... living in Decatur, IL. We too went to a little-known event in a packed-but-unairconditioned UMC church, and sat cross-legged on the floor in the dark to listen to a little-known radical Christ-follower.
Last night Shane and Chris Haw (co-author) alternatively read through their scripted, almost poetic, message of Christ's kingdom and call to an authentic-but-counter-intuitive lifestyle. Irrespective of our theological and political persuasions, we can at least HOPE such a message would shake up the status-quo of American Christianity. Return us to the call of Christ in our city.

Btw, the little-known radical Jan and I went to see in 1975 was also that unconventional, authentic-to-the-bone model. In fact, he played our old church piano so hard that he broke the pedal off it... stopped in the middle of his music... unceremoniously got down on the floor underneath the piano and wired it together again... talking to the crowd all the while... then proceeded with his unique message through music.

Keith Green's message has impacted my life. Perhaps Shane accomplished the same thing last night among this new generation of 20-somethings.

America remains a nation of believers, but a new survey finds most Americans don't think their religion is the only way to eternal life, even if their faith tradition teaches otherwise.
The findings, revealed Monday in a survey of more than 35,000 adults, can either be taken as a sign of growing religious tolerance or evidence that Americans dismiss or don't know fundamental teachings of their own faiths.
Among the more startling numbers in the survey, conducted last year by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life: 57 percent of evangelical churchgoers said they believe many religions can lead to eternal life, in conflict with traditional evangelical teaching.
"There's a growing pluralistic impulse toward tolerance, and that is having theological consequences," said D. Michael Lindsay, a Rice University sociologist of religion.
Earlier data from the Pew Forum's U.S. Religious Landscape Survey, released in February, highlighted how often Americans...
IndyChristian Ed. Note.... Maybe this is because so many attend 'The Largest Church In The World'. Or maybe they've been listening to their 'evangelical' president. Or maybe their favorite pastors/authors don't make these kinds of distinctions clear.
Does that make me a closet-Luddite? I try to hide that too. LOL.
At the same time, all this is very much at the heart of why I do what I do.

“To open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may thus receive forgiveness and release from their sins and a place and portion among those who are consecrated and purified by faith in Me.” Acts 26: 18
Jesus, so often we live our lives as if reality is only what we can see with our physical eyes. We hunger for Your reality. Help us understand that there is so much more going on than what we can physically see. Open our eyes to the wonder of Your love. Help us love what You love and hate what you hate

And what I have forgiven-- if there was anything to forgive-- I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. But one thing's for sure... we're off to a rocky start.
Americans reached a new threshold in their generosity in 2007, for the first time making more than $300 billion in charitable contributions, even as worries about current giving are beginning to mount.
Giving increased by 3.9 percent last year, despite rising gas prices and a year-end dip in the stock market, to $306.4 billion.

The rehabilitation is one of a number of projects that community and city leaders hope will help transform the Near Eastside in the next 31/2 years -- just in time for the 2012 Super Bowl"
"Joe Bowling, 32, is the "community builder" for the Great Indy Neighborhoods Initiative on the Near Eastside. He took a three-year leave of absence from his job as a real estate appraiser to help revive the neighborhood. He has coordinated a series of meetings for more than 500 residents to create a five-year quality-of-life plan for the area, and now he is working with the major players to make it happen. He hopes to encourage a grass-roots approach to improve the area, which, he says, will have a better chance of success than with the scattershot efforts of the past."

Six Bible-believing, near-eastside churches are committing to work together for the glory of God and the transformation of the Near Eastside...
"We the following pastors come together for fellowship and the transformation of the Near Eastside Neighborhood by the power of God (and the blessing of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ). Being led by the Holy Spirit as gospel preachers, we now commit ourselves to this task. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith, and it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph. 2: 8-9. This salvation is both personal and corporate, (extends to the proclamation) proclaiming that by Christ all things are reconciled to God. Col. 1:20. We further believe that our God is a triune God, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, I John 5:7. Affirming (Based on our beliefs,) the Holy Scriptures also (commonly) known as the Word of God, and for the purpose of this great work, we now commit our congregations to fellowship (“marriage”) as brothers and sisters in Christ, and again for the glory of God and fulfillment of the scriptures. Acts 2:44."
Come help celebrate this launch, and let's all learn how to better 'BE the Church' and DO what God has commanded the Church to do... together... city by city, neighborhood by neighborhood.
"You have said harsh things against me," says the LORD. "Yet you ask, 'What have we said against you?"You have said, 'It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty? But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.'" Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name. "They will be mine," says the LORD Almighty, "in the day when I make up my treasured possession. ". I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not Malachi 3:13-18 NIV

Indiana Dept of Corrections... The Answer For Church Growth?
by Neil Cox, Editor, IndyChristian.com
What has the potential for adding 18,000 new members to Indiana churches this year? Want to start a bus ministry, to go pick up people who might love to be loved by your church?
Commissioner David Donahue called a 'townhall meeting' last night on the campus of Martin University, to discuss Ex-offender Re-entry programs in our community.
The numbers are staggering... $1.3 Billion dollars are spent every 24 months for keeping prisoners in the state system. And their headcounts are growing at a rate of 4% annually.
During 2008, more than 5,000 IDOC prisoners will return to Marion County alone. Without a job and accountability structures, a very high percentage will return to the very habits that helped get them into prison in the first place. And not surprisingly, a very high percentage will return again to prison. Unless we help.
Alternatively, according to Commissioner Donahue, $80 million could be saved annually with just a 5% reduction in recidivism (rate of ex-offenders returning to prison).
Ok, so where's the Church as part of the solution? Are we willing to step up and be the redemptive agents that Jesus called us to be in the world? A number of our people are. Here's the wiki-page we're compiling of all the prison-related ministries serving our area.
Here are some examples...
Mike Boler, Dan Gushee, Steve Shoup, Bob Irvin
One of our cafe friends (and board member), Dan Gushee, provides housing for ex-offenders. More than just housing though, he helps guys be accountable... and discipled... as they return to the community.
It was fun to introduce Dan to another friend last night, Bob Irvin, who's leads a men's Read-Thru-The-Bible group in Carmel and is involved in the Kairos prison ministry (not to mention serving as a board member for Faith Hope & Love ). Bob is now working to build a micro-loan mechanism whereby we can help ex-offenders start a small business.
I hope you can begin to imagine how hard it is for ex-offenders to find a 'real' job. But becoming a small business owner... ie, provider of services such as landscaping, tree-trimming, etc. may well be a more reasonable possibility... with a little help. Bob told us of a guy who had been ministered to by the Kairos ministry, now released and working hard to restart his work life, by cutting down trees... with a handsaw. The proposed micro-loan fund would help obtain a $7,000 small-business loan to make it possible to buy a used truck, wood-chipper and chain-saws. Maybe even put some other guys to work with him as the business grows.
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadlypoison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. James 3:7-10 NIV

Prayer for Today:
“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’ ” Matthew 17:20 (NKJV)
We are so grateful, Lord Jesus, that You take such small things in our lives and use them in powerful ways. Move our mountains of shame, unbelief, darkness, injustice and violence. Let Your light break through by the power of Your faithfulness.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. Proverbs 15:1-2 NIV
IndyChristian Ed. Note... Today I'll be in Lafayette at a 'Youth Cafe' roundtable, where I'll be presenting for discussion... "Social Networking -- Accelerate Your Impact".
I always loved this pictorial illustration of Metcalfe's Law, which illustrates the value of social-networking...
"The value of a network is proportional to the square of the number of users."
That is, each connected participant adds significantly more value... because it creates significantly more relationships.
I have a good friend who sometimes mentions the difficulty of 'herding cats'. I remind him that you CAN herd cats just fine -- you just have to have enough people working shoulder-to-shoulder and moving in the same direction.
Here's an anecdote from the recent flood-disaster, demonstrating of the compounded value of social networking that's been done among the Christian community here in Indy over the years...
"Early last week, I received a call from a hotel in Castleton that they are giving away "used" mattresses and box spring. I sent an email to 6 people and the word got around. After a day I received a call from United Way Johnson County volunteer team leader in Franklin, IN. Before the end of today, there will be almost 50 mattresses and box springs shipped to Franklin, IN. to be donated to the flood victims." (Merlin Gonzales, Faith Hope & Love)

Prayer for Today:
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
Father, it’s our desire to please you today. Please take our simple faith and change this city. We’re amazed at the ways You reward us despite our weakness. We seek You, we worship You and honor You today.
“En realidad, sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios, ya que cualquiera que se acerca a Dios tiene que creer que él existe y que recompensa a quienes lo buscan.”Hebreos 11:6
Padre, es nuestro deseo a agradarte hoy. Por favor toma nuestra simple fe y cambia esta ciudad. Estamos asombrados de las maneras que nos recompensas a pesar de nuestra debilidad. Te buscamos, Te alabamos y Te honramos hoy.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalms1:1-6 NIV

Prayer for Today:
“Then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”- Isaiah 58:8b
Father, please go before us and prepare the hearts and minds of the people of Indianapolis as they encounter the volunteers of Faith, Hope and Love. We pray that the next 40 days will be marked with miracles, signs and wonders. Father, in Your word we hear stories of people just like us that were protected as they ministered in Your name. We thank you for the protection You are going to provide for us.
“Tu justicia te abrirá el camino, y la gloria del Señor te seguirá.”Isaías 58:8

We're anxiously waiting to hear from some Cedar Rapids cityreaching ministries. We know things are bad -- please pray. And stay tuned.
Btw, we're hoping to be able to get an update from them during the Mission America Coalition's CityReaching Teleconference Call on Thursday (11am Eastern). The scheduled guest interview on the call is Noel Castellanos, CCDA. If you'd like to participate in that call, contact info@cityreaching.com.
The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:7-11 NIV

New Life Community Church [Pastor Andy Hunt] was vandalized Saturday night. The damage is pretty extensive, but praise God no one was hurt and we will be able to hold service today. I just ask that you keep us in your prayers. It is absolutely devastating to walk in and see that kind of damage in your "home." Please pray for healing in our hearts and a speedy clean-up and insurance claim.

But retired pastor Lucious Newsom, who's about 90 years old, is still feeding the poor and needy of Indianapolis and enlisting the wealthy and influential to help him get the job done.
Newsom is well known in the city's low-income neighborhoods with his mobile food pantry. In the past couple of years, he has pitched his tent a little more permanently in a new building, the Lord's Pantry, just west of White River in Stringtown at New York and Elder streets."

you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from
his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one
