Kansas Abortion Doctor Killed...

[excerpts from Reuters News Agency...]

A Kansas doctor who was a controversial provider of so-called "late-term" abortions was shot and killed at his church on Sunday, local media reported.

The Wichita Eagle newspaper reported that 67-year-old George Tiller, a longtime target of anti-abortion activists, was shot to death as he walked into services at Reformation Lutheran Church.

Police are searching for a white male who fled the scene.

Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue said it was shocked by the news. "We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Dr. Tiller's family...

God's Word

That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. God's Word

'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

Joy In The Morning... A Testimony Of God's Love

[Published with permission at IndyChristian.com ... @LindaLMartin is a friend you'd love to have. Friend-up!]

This morning joy means being able to go outside in a beautiful yard that was tenderly planted years ago. It was planted by someone else’s hand, while I was learning to find joy in one of the darkest times of my life.

This morning Joy meant planting giant sunflowers for the birds and marigolds to keep the bugs down. This morning Joy meant having a little cart to carry water jugs to the places in the yard the yard that the leaky hose doesn’t reach. This morning Joy meant being able to walk with a cane and a cell phone that clips to my shirt, so that If I fell there was a way to call someone to rescue me. This morning Joy meant tenderly watering all the things, my assistant, Mary, planted, with such love for my birthday, so I would have fresh food this summer when the money runs out.

This morning Joy is restoration of many things that have been stolen or that I had to relinquish in my life. God Knew, just like he knew me before I was formed in my mother’s womb. He knew that this house and this yard with all these plants and these friends and even Mary were exactly what I needed, because he made this need in me for his Glory.

He knew what horses, what cats, what dogs, what child, what experiences. He even knew how I needed to see the two doves that appeared on my deck this morning as I was standing there. So beautiful , so gentle, those two doves are so representative of his grace too.

Twenty-two years ago I had to grasp at life lines trying to find some sort of joy. As time went forward, I never thought I would be alive now. Another amazing grace! Joy then was very different. Joy was for once being safe from the brutality of everyday life. Joy was having enough food for my baby. Joy was getting up early enough after being up with grandma till 3am, to keep her from walking the half mile, down the mountain and out to the main road so she could hitch-hike to town, while I slept. I never did understand why people with Alzheimer’s always wanted to go, it didn’t matter where, just someplace.

Joy was new baby kittens. Joy was song birds everywhere. Joy was the first night my daughter called me momma. Joy was learning to love solitude because the alternative is just lonely. Joy was 4:30 every afternoon when I went outside and looked out over the valley and just prayed for everyone and everything and listened to God. Joy was the continuous hope that one day when everyone came home from work that just one person might recognize that what I did was valuable and contributed, and that they might spend a little time really just talking with me.

Tomorrow I am 54. What a surprise! That doctor, that told my family I would be long dead by now, was just WRONG! And I am counting it all joy! Because everything I went through just equips me for the next 50 years. I have learned to understand a lot about poverty. Not just money poverty, but poverty of spirit. God took me, this selfish ambitious woman and filled me with eyes to see the way he does.

People I would have judged by my own religious spirit, I am now beginning to see, not as those who fall short of the glory of the standard of men’s own faith, but as people loved by God just as they are. They are so loved by God that he cuts them all sorts of slack, to get them where he wants them to be. Where he wants them is in close relationship to him, really knowing him, personally knowing him and so totally in love with him that they hear, really hear and cling to his voice. That they understand that the Bible is not a book of historical mythology or, weapons of oppressive laws and rules, but it is a love letter to everyone who ever lived of how patient and loving and tolerant is the All Powerful Creator of the Universe towards people he loves.

I don’t think I ever, in all my life ever, led any one to Christ. I thought I was just a big fraud. After all that is what evangelists are suppose to do isn’t it? Not really. An evangelist is just suppose ask God what he wants him to say or not say, and then say it, exactly the way God tells him to. God does it all! He is the only one who can love us enough to change our hearts and our minds. He is the only one powerful enough to change our circumstances, release favor upon us, bring us healing of all sorts, restore our fortunes, pour out blessings, and bring us Joy! He is the only one who can bring us out of turmoil and fear and into comfort, and safety. He is the only one.

There is a song. “Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe.” Because there really is no greater proof of love that someone lay down his life as a sacrifice for others. And Jesus did this for all of us. He paid for our arrogance and rebellion and interceded for us generations before were even thought of by any earthly being.

If we could be our own salvation; If we could work ourselves into God’s Grace, If we could just institute social programs and feed people to douse our guilt and work ourselves into a frenzy, until we were exhausted, then it would be just another form of arrogance. Because we would not say “see what God did for us”.. but we would say “see what we did for God!”

There will be many who say “Look, God , I spoke healing and people were healed, I proclaimed victory and people had victory, I led prayers, I helped with fundraising, I fed the poor, I showed mercy to the homeless, I was in church every Sunday. I was good person. I read the bible through every single year. I learned Greek. I went on mission trips. I worked with the children, I was a leader, I was a volunteer, I pointed out everyone’s flaws in not following the law. I criticized all those false teachers and pointed out their flaws. I stood for you God. I prayed for people. I was in praise band. I condemned sinners. I gave medicine to the sick, I bound wounds, I help single moms, I gave out free food, I comforted those in mourning, I befriended the lonely, I put money in the ministry, I never broke the commandments. I fought the murder of innocent children and babies. I stood against corruption and evil of every sort. I hated perversions. I fought your enemies. I was good and faithful member of my church and supporter of my denomination.
And God will say” I never knew you”.

We dont understand that God is God and we are not.He isnt interested so much is what we do, but what he is and does through us. The only thing that he wants is to have a relationship with you and me. He wants a relationship where the most important thing is that we hear his voice, and love his voice and obey his voice! We cannot do that, if we are busy thinking up things to do for God. We can’t hear him if we are listening to people, who don’t listen to him and they tell us all the things we need to do that take time away from knowing him.

We cannot pray down his will, and cannot speak the words of his heart, unless we know him personally. The only way to know him personally is to spend time with him, reading his love letter, loving on him and most important: letting him pour out his love on us. He alone knows if this is the true desire of your heart. You might hide it from everyone else but you cannot hide it from him.

All the great men and women of the Bible had two things in common. 1. They made a lot of big mistakes and sinned big sins. 2. Their hearts desire was relationship to God.. to be in the presence of God, to be loved by God and love God, to obey him, to be taught by him, to walk with him, to receive every good thing by God’s hand ,to God’s own Glory, not their own.

And every great man and women of today has two things in common 1. They made a lot of big mistakes and sinned big sins. 2. Their hearts desire is relationship to God, to be in the presence of God, to be loved by God and love God , to obey him , to be taught by him, to walk with him, to receive every good thing by God’s hand, to God’s own Glory, not their own.

I am only alive today to see the joy in little things, because he loves me so very much. A love I took for grant it, a love I didn’t recognize, a love that words cannot describe and that for most of my life I never knew existed, because someone in my life never took the time to learn God’s voice, and love him and pray down his will, and then tell me exactly what God wanted me to know. It took a little longer, but in the end, it was God that did it himself. He was merciful to me when others refused to come to him. How can I ever, ever, think for a moment that I am worthy to say “look at what I did for you, God”.. when it was that Jesus paid it all as part of God’s own plan, open to every person that every lived to receive it or reject it. And it was by God’s hand, by no other, that I am his and he is mine. And even though I am not worthy, that I have made big mistakes and sinned big sins, my heart’s desire is to be in relationship with God, to be in God’s presence, to be loved by God, to obey him, to be taught by him, to walk with him, to receive every good thing by God’s own hand, to God’s own Glory and not my own. And that is my ultimate Joy in this morning!

Oh Lord, I thank you that you have spoken your love into the heart and mind of every person that has read this. I thank you that you have made a way possible for them to be restored to you and in relationship to you, through Christ. I thank you that each person who reads this has now seen what you are really all about and has repented of their arrogance. I thank you that they now desire a new relationship based on your will, your love and relationship to you. I thank you, that you, in your mercy have poured out your unlimited anointing of love upon them, renewing t heir hearts and minds, breaking off every yoke of the past, because they are already forgiven. I thank you Lord, also for teaching them now, to love you, by your Holy Spirit. I Thank you also for those who have read this that already have received this relationship with you and I ask that you protect that relationship and increase it in them. In Jesus Holy Mighty name, Amen.

God's Word

But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.

Be A Blessing Where You Are!

Have you passed through the intersection of 34th and Washington Blvd lately? At that intersection you will find a new artificial turf football field . Tabernacle Presbyterian Church has been light in the Fallcreek/Mapleton community for many years. Tabernacle ministers to the community with the compassion and heart of Christ. One of the things unique to "TAB" is its Recreation Ministry. To mention anything about the Fallcreek/Mapleton neighborhood one would be remised to not mention TAB Rec.

TAB Rec is a recreation ministry bringing hope and renewal to a community. How many of us are a "TAB" product? From soccer, t-ball, basketball, chess, cheerleading, softball, track and football to name a few of their programs. Recent updates to the football field are a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. Yet the beauty and many programs do not compare to the lives touched by caring staff and coaches.

Programs offered by TAB help teach young people about discipline, character and teamwork. Praise God for programs like Tab across the city making a difference in the lives of others. So the next time you pass the intersection of 34th and Washington Blvd. say a prayer for Tabernacle Presbyterian, Pastor John Gable and Ben Hughes TAB Rec Director along with all the countless children who have or will come through the gates of TAB Rec.

God's Word

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: "Listen to the terms of this covenant and tell them to the people of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem. Tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Cursed is the man who does not obey the terms of this covenant-- the terms I commanded your forefathers when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.' I said, 'Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God. Then I will fulfill the oath I swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey'-- the land you possess today." I answered, "Amen, LORD."

A Gift To Muslims... Becomes Key To Evangelism

[from Mission Network News...]

International ― Fouad Masri, founder and president of [Indianapolis-based] Crescent Project, says millions of Muslims in North America need to know about the hope of Christ.

It's a vision he's shared since 1993, when he established Crescent Project. Masri, a Lebanese pastor, grew up in the war zone of Beirut. After his own encounter with Christ, he saw a need to equip Christians to reach out to the Muslim community.

Most Muslim ministries have focused on sending full-time missionaries overseas to Muslim countries. Crescent Project has used an entirely different approach: train the local church to reach out to the Muslims in the community.

They are considered one of the fastest...

God's Word

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-- he will be blessed in what he does. If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Consider blessing a a non-profit organization making a difference in the community...

Many children in central Indiana are in crisis. Life is a struggle every day. They have been exposed to hunger, poverty, violence, abuse, and other horrors unimaginable in childhood. They struggle with mental health and emotional issues. They demonstrate behaviors that no one understands. They are failing in school. They may be in legal trouble or no longer live at home. Often, these youth lack strong positive role models. Their families have been in the "system" for years, and they have no hope. Most are significantly at risk for school failure, placement outside of their home, and/or removal from their community. Some, but not all, have identified special education needs. Others are under consideration for special education referral.

PASSWORD Community Mentoring helps these children who face monumental challenges access their true potential, one step at a time. Professionally trained Mentors help each child discover their password to unlocking a series of doors and accessing a world of hope.

Hear from the kids we serve...

"PassWord has helped me by solving some of the biggest conflicts that I have had.  It helped me because I learned how to help other people who have conflicts.  Whenever I have a rough day I feel free to come and talk to the PassWord Mentor about what's going on."

God's Word

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. "If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD's holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob." The mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Garden of Hope

By Merlin Gonzales, President, Faith Hope and Love

There are many stagnant, vacant lands in our city. A question was asked, ‘What if we turn the vacant land into farming and gardening?’ This question stirred many hearts in our city.

Last summer, many volunteers gathered in Fortville, IN and provided raised garden beds in the neighborhoods. Earlier this year, Faith Hope and Love (FHL) partnered with the refugees to cultivate the gardens in Fortville. On Monday, the 10th of May, the refugees farmers harvested their first crop.

Recently, FHL partnered with Midwest Food Bank in cultivating an acre of land next to the food bank. The idea was to turn the land into a small farming site. The Chin people (Burmese) agreed to provide labor in exchange of sharing the harvest of the land.

There were numerous people in attendance among them were Merlin Gonzales, President of Faith Hope and Love, Ralph Taylor, International Affairs Coordinator for the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office, John Whitaker, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank and Pastor Bhawerain of the Chin people.

In the next few days, FHL will be offering opportunities to adopt hens at the Fortville farm. You can adopt a hen for $10 one time investment and $4 every month for feed. In return, the sponsors will benefit by receiving fresh farm eggs on a monthly basis and can experience being a farmer.

If you are interested in being part of the FHL initiatives, please call 317-578-3370 for more information.

It is said that unemployment is about 10%. What if the 90% of the population who are blessed with a job provide incentive and encouragement for the 10% unemployed who want and need a loving and dignified assist? Our job framework has shrunk so it can't support everyone with a job at this time. So being out of work is not always a choice these days.

Faith Hope and Love Mother’s Day Celebration 2009

By Merlin Gonzales, President, Faith Hope and Love (FHL International, Inc.)

Faith Hope and Love (FHL) joined the Mother’s Day Celebration presented by La Voz de Indiana on Saturday, May 9th. The celebration included FHL MobMomDayFaceile Food Pantry, which provided groceries to more than 1000 people. It was truly a collaborative pantry, including many volunteers from different cultures of the world, such as Hispanics, Asians and Europeans. The FHL Mobile Food Pantry is a monthly service that is held at different parts of the city to reach out those who cannot travel far and to encourage the active participation of local communities. The food pantry is joined by churches, businesses, government and education institutions in serving the least, the lost and the last. You are encouraged to serve with FHL by volunteering or by sponsoring families. Your contribution of $15 will feed a family of 5 for a day.

Earlier the same day, as part of the Mother’s Day celebration, Faith Hope and Love provided free oil changes at four Indianapolis locations: Post Road Christian Church on the east side, Chapel Rock Christian Church on the west, and Hubler Express Collision in the North and South locations. More than 100 single moms received free oil changes. Through this community outreach, many volunteers were thankful that their passion was used to serve others. FHL is now looking for volunteers who like to do routine maintenance and minor repair on vehicles. FHL is expanding its car ministry to 4 locations in Indianapolis.

In addition to food pantry and oil changes, the FHL Street Evangelism team shared the Gospel in the 10th Street/RuralMomDayLine area. As a result, an individual at a bus stop accepted the Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The individuals involved in this team have been preaching the gospel in the local area for more than 2 years now.

Faith Hope and Love partnered with the Pacer Entertainment–Indiana Fever WNBA to provided indoor entertainment to the disadvantaged families and their friends. FHL is asking the community to sponsor children for the game at Conseco Fieldhouse on June 27th 7pm. A ticket is $14, which includes entrance to the game, vouchers for a free hotdog, a bag of chips, a drink and a t-shirt. Contact FHL at 317-578-3370 for information in sponsoring the disadvantaged.

More Americans Calling Themselves 'ProLife'

NEW YORK — A Gallup Poll released Friday found that 51 percent of Americans now call themselves pro-life rather than pro-choice on the issue of abortion, the first time a majority gave that answer in the 15 years that Gallup has asked the question.

The findings, obtained in an annual survey on values and beliefs conducted May 7-10, marked a significant shift from a year ago. A year ago, 50 percent said they were pro-choice and 44 percent pro-life -- in the new poll, 42 percent said they were pro-choice.

The new survey showed that Americans remained deeply divided on the legality of abortion -- with 23 percent saying it should be illegal in all circumstances, 22 percent saying it should be legal under any circumstances, and 53 percent saying it should be legal only under certain circumstances.

The findings echoed a recent national survey by the Pew Research Center, which reported a sharp decline...

God's Word

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Bible Distribution Moves To The 'Cloud'...

International (MNN) ― Troy Carl with Faith Comes By Hearing says a new software application called the Audio Bible Ambassador will revolutionize Bible distribution.

Here's how it works: "A person simply downloads a Bible for themselves. They give us permission to load a small piece of audio Bible information into the software."

In other words, the FCBH team set up a network that functions much like Skype, using a grid or cloud interface to store pieces of the audio Bible in different languages on the hard drives of "host" computers.

Then, let's say you choose to be an ambassador to the Kirundi speakers of Burundi. Carl explains that "the computer system will go out to the grid or to the 'cloud', and it will say...

Indianapolis Public Schools ~ 4 for Life Celebration

On Friday morning a sea of yellow school buses headed to Conseco Fieldhouse. Students, Teachers, School Staff and Principals were about to witness a promise kept by Dr. Eugene White, Superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools.

At the beginning of the year I.P.S. made a conscience effort to address behavior in our elementary schools. The emphasis was not placed on poor behavior but on expectations on what the district wanted students to model. Students were taught and expected to demonstrate IPS Core Values of Courage, Excellence, Scholarship and Respect. Students were issued wristbands of each core value....those who were able to keep their bands by practicing the Core Values were promised a BIG celebration at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Over 8,000 students attended the celebration on Friday. It was a wonderful site.... spotlighting the positive. The program featured Pacer players, Indiana Fever players and Boomer. Words of encouragement from Pacer Sports and Entertainment, Olgen Williams (IPS Alumni) and Dr. White ....and more.

Experiencing such a wonderful event highlighting the positive choice kids can and will make....made me wonder what is the Church's response? What can we as individuals and the collective body of Christ do to impact kids in Indianapolis Public Schools. The jury is still out on that one. I fully understand there are churches making impact...but how do we rally together collectively and intentionally. (For all of you facebookers...check out Shad Isaiah Hill's message from Indy's Reload Conference on Hope and Change!)

We are in a warfare and our kids..my kids and your kids are at risk. I encourage you to check out http://www.2020schools.net/ and think about what it will take for Indianapolis to take a model program from New York to infiltrate our schools to make a positive change. Where and when does the dialogue begin?

#FollowFriday Is Followed By #UBcafe Saturday...

If you're wondering about Twitter and how it can serve kingdom purposes at the speed of Light, consider how the #FollowFriday tag on Twitter helps connect driven Christians (or anyone)...and notably those of us actively at work about the Great Commission in #Indianapolis.

Here's my #FollowFriday tweet of people I follow (among many many others)... But notice the newest addition to my list, tweeting this week from the Evangelical Press Association conference here in Indy... @SPulliam ...a young Hoosier now writing for Christianity Today.

Ok, are you ready to at least get a Twitter ID and start learning how it can be effectively used? Come on down to the #UBcafe (Unleavened Bread Cafe at 30th x Central Av) tomorrow morning... or EVERY Saturday... at 10am, for Ask Anything Saturday. Everyone's welcome. If you already are a tweep *LOL* then consider coming and helping others. It's an each-one-teach-one format.

See ya there.

God's Word

Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.
Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Heb 11:9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
Heb 11:11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age-- and Sarah herself was barren-- was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.
Heb 11:13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.

Officials Lead City In A Day Of Prayer...

[from the Indianapolis Star...]

About 100 people, many of them top civic leaders, gathered at City Market on Thursday to offer prayers for hope and guidance as part of the annual National Day of Prayer.

Forty thousand events were held across the country, including one at the Statehouse. But Thursday was the first time the city of Indianapolis has hosted an event.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Michael Spears offered a prayer for public safety officers, Brig. Gen. Bryan Hult prayed for fellow officers in the Indiana National Guard, and City-County Councilman Paul Bateman prayed for politicians and elected officials.

Other prayers were offered for nonprofits, the homeless, families and the media.

Councilman Jeff Cardwell said the council's Prayer Caucus decided to host the event to put a human face on those who are leading the city.

"We're putting faces and humans behind all of these different categories. It tears down the barriers that divide us," Cardwell said. "It lifts the city up, lifts the people up."

Many of the prayers echoed...

Thurs, May 7th... National Day of Prayer

[from EverydayChristian.com...]

Millions of Americans are expected to participate in local and national observances Thursday, May 7 as part of the National Day of Prayer (NDP). The NDP, held annually on the first Thursday of May, encourages people to gather publicly or privately to pray for our nation and its leaders. This year's theme, "Prayer . . . America's Hope," is based on Psalm 33:22.

"At this time of economic downturn, terrorist threats, and relentless assaults upon foundational biblical principles, it's heartenting to reflect that we serve a God who has repeatedly shown himself ‘mighty to save' in the lives of those who trust in him," said Shirley Dobson, Chariman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, which organizes the effort.

Last year, tens of thousands of prayer gatherings were held nationwide in churches, schools, businesses, prisons and government buildings and monuments. Additionally, "day of prayer" declarations were made by the president and the governors of all 50 states.

NDP organizers encourage people to attend an event in their local area on Thursday...

The group who is hand-drilling a water well started a new well. They abandoned the other site after they overstated the water available. The nearly 80-foot well did produce enough water. This fact was determined just before they had installed the pump. Also, they had installed the pump base at the bottom of the bore-hole.

The group was able to retrieve...

Communion Adjustments Around The City...

[excerpts from the Indianapolis Star...]

One of the largest Catholic churches in Central Indiana will suspend some Holy Communion rituals temporarily to reduce the potential for spreading swine flu.

Rex Rund, director of music and liturgy at the 5,000-member Our Lady of Mount Carmel, sent an e-mail to church members Friday stating Communion will be given only through bread and not through the traditional sharing of the cup of wine.

Tayisha McGuire, public relations manager of Eastern Star Church, said it distributes Communion sets of individual packages of wafer and juice once a month, so it doesn't need to make changes. The church has a 10,000-person congregation at three locations, one in Fishers and two in Indianapolis.
