Nehemiah was the King’s cupbearer, meaning he is trusted and high up in ranks. He was called to rebuild the city wall. As a leader, here’s what he did to accomplish his mission: - He prayed - He asked the King, a person of authority to give him favor and support - He assessed the damage - He gathered the people, young and old, poor and rich, skilled and unskilled to join him in his mission - When opposition comes, he prayed - After finishing the task, he reminded the people of God’s goodness, He’s laws and the people’s obligations and they rejoiced - He led the people to confess their sins - After the wall was restored, he led the people to renew their devotion to God and His covenant - He dedicated the wall with thanksgiving and singing with musical instruments
The result? Not only the wall was restored but national reformation happened.
Nehemiah probably thought he was just going to rebuild the wall. But in the end, he was instrumental in rebuilding the nation of Israel.
Many times in our lives, we feel that we are assigned to do something. We do outreaches, projects and services. But programs and projects have beginnings and ends. However, if we are looking for transformation, we need to look first to God and to people, not to programs and projects. Real transformation happens when the hearts of the people are transformed. How are people’s hearts transformed? Through relationships and authentic interaction with one another.
Mark 12:28-30, “One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these." Love is the universal language. Love is rooted in relationship.
God wants all of us to have first, a relationship with Him and relationships with others. Based on the Book of Nehemiah, the key to leadership and transformation is relationship with God and others – the two greatest commandments.
June 30, 2007 “Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God. Growing in grace they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap (of spiritual vitality) and (rich in the) verdure (of trust, love, and contentment). Psalm 92:13-14
Lord, we pray today that You would remind those of our city who are seasoned in years that this is their time of great fruitfulness. Restore in them an understanding of their purpose and place in Your kingdom.
Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even "sinners" love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even "sinners" do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even "sinners" lend to "sinners," expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as yourFather is merciful. Luke 6:31-36 NIV
June 29, 2007 “Your name, O Lord, endures forever, Your renown, O Lord, through all generations.” Psalm 135:13
Father, it’s amazing to think that You know every person in Indianapolis. You are able to relate to every generation. We cry out today that you would minister to the young and the old uniting us into one people.
June 28, 2007 “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1 Lord, we come from so many different parts of the city and we’re different in so many ways. Yet we pray that You would let us work together with one purpose to accomplish great things through Faith, Hope and Love.
As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children . After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Matthew 14:15,16,21,23 NIV
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13 NIV
June 27, 2007 “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” Matthew 18:19 We agree together for the purposes of God in Indianapolis. Lord Jesus, increase our faith to believe in the amazing things You want to do through us.
I am not sure if you guys are keeping up with the 40-day prayer. Today's prayer is a prophetic one. Here's a testimonial to it.
Last Sunday, the Lord told me to pray for my Senior Pastor that God's message through him will communicate clearly to the people and that they will take action based on the message. Half way in his message, the Holy Spirit came on me and I could not stop weeping. The verses of his sermon was taken from Acts 9-the conversion of Paul and the assignment of Ananias. Verses 10-18, 10In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, "Ananias!" "Yes, Lord," he answered.
11The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight."
13"Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. 14And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name."
15But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. 16I will show him how much he must suffer for my name." 17Then Ananias went to the hous e and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
In past several weeks, I have been carrying too much load regarding the preparation of FHL week. I was telling the Lord lately that the load is too much. Then in the sermon, I heard the word, "GO"! God did not explain anything to Ananias but He answered with a command. At that point of the message last Sunday, I started weeping and could not move from my seat. Tears continued to flow on my cheeks, non-stop.
I was prayed for by several prayer warrior in my church after the service. At the end of the prayer, the message was to take a day or two off and just listen to the Lord. My wife Annie tried to get me a cottage for Monday night but the only available is Tuesday. So this morning, I will be going for a day in nature outside Indy.
Please read the devotion today. At times, God will call you to do things that is way more than you could think of; He would not give you an explanation but He will just tell you to "Go". Obey Him; He's up to something. Only then will you get the answer. God is a faithful & loving God who hears us and loves us unconditionally.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 27:1-6 NIV
June 26, 2007 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.” Ephesians 1:17
We pray for Merlin and Annie Gonzales as they lead Faith, Hope and Love. We ask the Father to strengthen them with new vision, protection and grace.
[Many of you know Pastor John Hay from the cafe Bible study Wednesday mornings... ]
"I'm embarrassed about it, but it happened. Mountain biking with a couple of guys from church early Wednesday morning at Washington Township Park in Avon, I went off the edge of a trail bridge, fell eight feet, and really did a number on my ribs, back, right scapula, and sternum. A beautiful early-morning bike hike turned into torturous pain, an ambulance ride, trauma center care, and three days in a hospital bed.
John: 16 fractures, including two compressed vertebrae."
For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:5-6 NIV
MeanDean: Church Website Attention-Deficit Disorder
[Ed. Note: The Information Highway has turned into a forest. No, in fact, it is becoming a deluge!!! The urgency for 21st Century leaders to recognize the need for learning new-paradigm methods for communicating well, among the (citywide?) team called 'the Church'... is in most cases yet to be grasped. 'MeanDean' means well. Understand what he's alerting you to.]
"I write today to bring to your attention a growing malady among those seeking to find a church home online. And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth." Revelation 5:9 NIV

Nosotros oramos para que tu reveles cualquier oscuridad en nuestros corazones al mismo tiempo que tu nos preparas para ministrar a tu ciudad atravez de la Fe, la Esperanza y el Amor.

Shane Claiborne is an avid Christ-follower, a Wheaton College graduate, living and leading the 'Simple Way' community in the inner city of Philadelphia. Shane's a CCDA advocate... in fact, a board member... and was actively a part of CCDA Indy 2005. Many of you met him, and you can't help but like and admire him. Hi all - I know some of you have been deeply impacted by Shane Claiborne's message and the mission of the Simple Way community in Philadelphia. If you haven't heard about this, please keep them in your prayers and if you can support them, please do.
6/20/07 12:30PM This morning, a 7-alarm fire consumed an abandoned warehouse in our Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia. The Simple Way Community Center at 3200 Potter Street was destroyed as well as at least eight of our neighbors’ homes. Over 100 people were evacuated from their homes, and 400 families are currently without power. Despite this developing tragedy, we are incredibly thankful to share that all of our community members and every one of our neighbors is safely out of harm’s way.
This fire will forever change the fabric of our community. Eight families are currently homeless, and in many cases have lost their vehicles as well as their homes. One of our neighbors, the Mahaias Family, lost their three cars as well as the equipment one family member uses for her massage therapy business. Teenager Brian Mahaias is devastated not because he has lost his belongings, but because he fears that this fire will force him to move away from this neighborhood that is his family as well as his home.
The Simple Way has lost a community center that was home to our Yes! And… afterschool program, community arts center, and Cottage Printworks t-shirt micro-business as well as to two of our community members. Community members Shane Claiborne and Jesce Walz have lost all of their belongings, Yes! And…’s after school studio and library were ruined, and community member Justin Donner’s Cottage Printworks equipment and t-shirts were destroyed.
We are thankful that we are able to help each other during this time of need, and we will continue to keep your informed about today’s events.
We have established funds to support the families who have lost their homes, the Yes! And… afterschool program, and the Simple Way community.
A fund to support the families has been established through a partner organization, EAPE. Tax-deductible donations can be made at https://www.tonycampolo.org/online_donation.php. Please make sure to put “Kensington Families Fund” in the memo section.

It’s our prayer today that You would penetrate the darkness of our city through Faith, Hope and Love. Let Your light shine today.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, f aithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24 NIV

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” Psalm 40:5
Father God, we pray that the next 40 days will be a time of preparation for the countless ways that God will impact the city of Indianapolis through Faith, Hope and Love. Lord, let Your Kingdom come!
So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. Deuteronomy 5:32-33 NIV

Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. Romans 6:3-5 NIV

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:39-40 NIV
How on earth did we humans develop such fuzzy worldviews???
Americans are a conflicted bunch. Data showed such contradictions as 53% believing in evolution of humans over millions of years... yet 66% also believing God created them within the past 10,000 years. And other such anomalies. Go figure.
But at least Gallup could 'make up his mind' on a few conclusions... "Bottom Line... The data in this analysis were measured in the context of questions about the origin and development of human beings. It is apparent that many Americans simply do not like the idea that humans evolved from lower forms of life. This appears to be substantially based on a belief in the story of creation as outlined in the Bible -- that God created humans in a process that, taking the Bible literally, occurred about 10,000 years ago.
Americans who say they do not believe in the theory of evolution are highly likely to justify this belief by reference to religion, Jesus Christ, or the Bible. Furthermore, there is a strong correlation between high levels of personal religiosity and doubts about evolution.
Being religious in America today is strongly related to partisanship, with more religious Americans in general much more likely to be Republicans than to be independents or Democrats. This relationship helps explain the finding that Republicans are significantly more likely than independents or Democrats to say they do not believe in evolution. When three Republican presidential candidates said in a May debate that they did not believe in evolution, the current analysis suggests that many Republicans across the country no doubt agreed."
Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 NIV
And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9 NIV
Barna Research: No-faith takes aim at Active-faith
"Atheists and agnostics are adopting a more aggressive, intentional effort to reject God and to critique people of faith. A new study by The Barna Group examines the numbers, lifestyles and self-perceptions of America’s atheists and agnostics, comparing them to the group of individuals who actively participate in the Christian faith. Surprisingly, not every measure shows points of differentiation; there was also some common ground between the two groups who are at opposite ends of the faith spectrum."
[IndyChristian Ed.Note: Btw, here's an interesting quote in the report re innovation.... "Perhaps partly due to the younger nature of the audience, atheists and agnostics are more likely than are active-faith adults to say they are into new technology (64% among no-faith individuals versus 52% among active-faith adults) and to assert that they adapt easily to change (81% versus 66%)."]

Now about the dead rising - have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God ofJacob"? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Mark 12:26-27 NIV
In the Book, Prayer Evangelism by Ed Silvoso, he wrote, “You may be down, but Satan is down, too. The one who gets up first will win your city.” Many have attempted for a unified prayer but we are still scattered and at times, divided. Satan wants disunity, but that’s not Jesus plan for His church. We are called in different ways and different locations by Jesus, but I am asking you to consider having even just one unified event where all the Prayer Leaders in Central Indiana would come in one accord for our city. Many people around the country have been praying for this gathering...maybe even you. I am asking that you pray for us if you cannot attend. The next Prayer Canopy is on Thursday, the 7th at 7pm at City Hop located at: City House of Prayer 1285 N. Bluff Rd Greenwood, IN 46142

I believe that the Lord had given us a “Spiritual Window of Opportunity” and it is up to us to accept it and walk through it. These Prophet Acts had been rejected, denied and opposed in our city…not this time! Satan wants us to focus on our pain (disunity, busyness, etc.) rather than his pain. Revelation 12:11 tells us that the devil is defeated by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. The above is the listing of our Prophetic Acts and we will declare the supernatural in the natural. We will act, live and walk on it.
It is my sincere plea and prayer that you will join us…for the sake of our city.
I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you - the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalms 121:1-8 NIV
Second Helpings chose to move three years ago into a larger building, allowing it to nearly double the number of meals it prepares daily to feed the hungry.
That move came with a price though: a $225,000 mortgage. But the agency that takes prepared and perishable foods and refashions it into meals for the needy was convinced the community would support its decision.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16 NIV
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 NIV
Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Deuteronomy 8:11-14 NIV

"If
you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from
his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one
in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but
in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not
only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus..." (Philippians
