Here's a great example of how local Christian leaders can collaborate online at the centralized wiki for Indianapolis....
"Another great week!
Jonathan Thomas returned to discuss his EastGate vision, Tom Ketchum reiterated his vision for the transformation of Warren Township, and we were joined by newcomers, John Hunt & Trey Davis.
John's face was a picture of affirmation, and joy, as Trey Davis shared God's leading in his life, which has led him to establish Cornerstone Church of Indianapolis on Shortridge Road, across the street from Eastgate Mall, and just south of Crossroads Bible College. John, Jonathan, and Trey have all been impressed by the Holy Spirit to promote 24/7 prayer, so they were excited about the prospects of unity in this area!
Eldon shared the 12 Characteristics of Communities that have Experienced Transformation, which emphasizes Prayer as the 1st Characteristic - "sustained, earnest, united, desperate prayer." Are we desperate enough about the Eastside to commit to the work of prayer?
Five of us had an impromptu prayer meeting following the luncheon, and three of us committed to meet weekly for prayer. Let Eldon know if you are interested in joining us.

Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified. For if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! Galatians 2:16, 21b NIV
I think too many times Christian leaders have said we should be in this world and not of it and put people under the impression that we should not engage ourselves with culture.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1:22-24 NIV

The New York City Noon Prayer Meeting Talbot W. Chambers Campus Renewal Ministries, Inc. 2007
Thesis:
Approximately 100,000 souls came to Christ through this incredibly humble and Christ-focused hourly prayer meeting. Such simplicity and divine moments can only be accredited by the hand of God and sincere souls hungry for intimacy with Jesus and their fellow Christians.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children - with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Psalms 103:13-18 NIV

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:19-22 NIV

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14 NIV
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Romans 13:12-13 NIV
"I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ." Interview by Sarah Pulliam & Ted Olsen, Christianity Today Magazine Barack Obama wants to set the record straight. He is not a Muslim, as recent e-mails falsely claim.
The Democratic presidential candidate is fighting the e-mails that have been widely circulated. Obama has been continually speaking about the role of faith in politics since his Call to Renewal address in June 2006.
In the days before the South Carolina primary, he is driving efforts to speaking with media to emphasize his Christian beliefs. His campaign also sent out a recent mailer portraying the candidate with his head bowed in prayer and says that he will be guided by prayer when he is in office.
The senator from Illinois spoke with Sarah Pulliam and Ted Olsen today about his faith, abortion, and the evangelical vote.
It's perhaps laudable that a fine magazine like CT would give the candidate a chance to state some of his views without subjecting him to immediate hard-hitting follow-up questions. Those questions will get asked sooner or later anyway. But in the meantime, they've given Senator Obama a pass... by pretty much allowing him an open mic to tell about his sense of spirituality. So let's look at some of his (not) answers...
CT Question: "So would you keep the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives open or restructure it?"
He dodged the question. Some of us would like know the answer.
For many evangelicals, abortion is a key, if not the key factor in their vote. You voted against banning partial birth abortion and voted against notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. What role do you think the President should play in creating national abortion policies?
He dodged the question. I'd like to know the answer.
But here's an interesting portion of his response...
"Ultimately, women are in the best position to make a decision at the end of the day about these issues. With significant constraints."
Meaning what? That 'ultimately' the mother gets to make the call? The baby doesn't yet have a voice. Oh, but not really... apparently the state (the people) theoretically have a compelling interest enough to set some limits... but he's not willing to set limits on the vast majority of situations if he can't dictate the terms of the very very few exceptional situations? Sounds much more like political posturing than legislating protection of defenseless babies.
CT Question: "Would you describe that as a conversion? Do you consider yourself born again?"
He dodged answering the specific question being asked.
How tough is it for a politician to give simple answers to such easy questions?
Pulitzer-prize winning cartoonist targets evangelicals and Hillary. by Sarah Pulliam, Christianity Today
Time will tell whether Democratic efforts will actually impact evangelical voter habits, but one Pulitzer-prize winning cartoonist seems a bit skeptical.

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:14-16 NIV
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not b oast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:12-15 NIV
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 NIV

"I first met CCDA and Noel Castellanos in the early 1990s. A few years out of college, I was coordinating “urban plunge” experiences for Christian college students exploring urban and cross-cultural ministry through the Christian Center for Urban Studies of the Olive Branch Mission. A pastor in Chicago’s La Villita neighborhood, Noel periodically hosted our student groups who were exploring the Mexican community. I also recently had encountered the world of affordable housing and economic development and had run across the writings of John Perkins, Ray Bakke, Bob Lupton, Ron Sider, and others. I had my big “aha” moment, as I call it, as these authors provided me words to articulate the stirrings in my soul. And my continued exploration into Christian community development helped me find the professional field of urban planning and policy.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:15-17 NIV
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 1 Peter 12-16 NIV
Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6 NIV
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 NIV

(Ventura, CA) - Pentecostal or charismatic Christianity is viewed by some Americans as an emotional, theologically suspect form of the Christian faith. It is widely thought to be a very vocal and visible, but numerically small slice of the grand religious pie in the United States. Two new surveys from The Barna Group, however, indicate that things are changing dramatically in the religious landscape. Those surveys - one among a national sample of adults and the other among a national sample of Protestant pastors - show that the number of churches and adherents to Pentecostal perspectives and practices has grown significantly in the past two decades.
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
[from Dave Butts, Chm, National Prayer Committee...]
To all National Prayer Committee Members and Friends,
Greetings in the Name of Jesus in this New Year! I’d like to take a few minutes of your time to talk about this very special year of 2008. Some of us will be gathering in Miami in a few weeks and will share more together about this, but I know that others cannot attend. My prayer is that these thoughts may prompt us to pray more for our nation and to encourage us as to the value of what we are doing as a prayer movement.
Last May as the NPC met in Washington DC, we began to hear about various prayer initiatives that would take place in 2008. As the list grew, my organizational anxiety grew with it. “Oh no, all of these prayer events will conflict and compete with each other. How can we organize this and not overwhelm the Church with too many conflicting prayer events?” Those were the thoughts going on within me and, I suspect, within a few others there.
He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:12-14 NIV
MLK topic... national cityreaching call... Jan. 17th
by Phil Miglioratti, Mission America Coalition
Many believe that without reconciliation and forgiveness there will be no sustained city/community transformation! Join us for our monthly City Reaching Conference Call on Thursday, January 17 when we will interview Michael Lienau who has produced a very provocative film "Yokes and Chains...a journey to forgiveness and freedom".
IndyChristian Ed. Note: Here in Indy, let me turn you onto a new page in the cityreaching wiki... MLK Day Activities. Any of you 'cityreachers' out there are welcome to add items to the list. That's the value of these 'collaborative' Web2.0 type tools available to us today... they help us work TOGETHER. After all, that's to be the nature of the Church, is it not?
For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what wouldhappen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Matthew 24:38-39 NIV
Life begins at conception, and a fetus could feel pain during an abortion.
Indiana would require doctors to deliver that heavily debated statement, in writing, to abortion patients under proposed legislation that re-emerged Thursday at the Statehouse.
A similar bill died in the Senate last year, but its author, Sen. Patricia L. Miller, R-Indianapolis, is pushing it again this session.
The legislation, Senate Bill 146, was debated Thursday in the Senate Judiciary Committee but received no vote.
Representatives from Indiana Right to Life, the Indiana Catholic Conference and the conservative activist group Advance America backed the bill. Planned Parenthood and the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation spoke against it.
Miller said the bill is necessary to make sure women considering an abortion have all the facts they need to make an informed decision.
"This decision is a life decision, and many people who have abortions never forget they had an abortion," Miller said. "So I think we ought to help them as much as we can before as opposed to afterward."
Democrats traditionally have fought the bill, objecting to the notion of defining life at conception and presenting as fact that a fetus can feel pain during an abortion.
"From slavery to the civil rights movement, it was always the praying remnant that mobilized the future into being with intercession and activism. Today, the same God who ended these atrocities and injustices wants to use this generation to end abortion.
While reading a quote in a biography on William Wilberforce, the great parliamentary figure of the 1800s who almost single-handedly ended the slave trade in England, I was suddenly and forcibly apprehended by the presence of God. In that moment, I received an undeniable and irrevocable commission from the Lord: “Raise up a prayer movement to end abortion in America.” TheCall is a part of that prayer movement.
God is the basis of all reality. Thus, what He is like in his being and through his activity should provide an adequate explanation for all that we see and experience. The Bible attests that God is holy and He is a relational being. Yet in the amazing providence of God, He stands revealed not in platitudes and abstract universals, but in a breathtaking narrative recorded for us in the Bible that outlines his encounter with his people in creation and redemption history.
Similarly, we are born to our parents and we grow in our understanding of ourselves as we learn to relate to parents, siblings, and friends. Simply put, I can’t be me without someone else; you can’t be you without reference to someone else. What makes a person a person is her (or his) capability of interpersonal relationship. In fact, we derive our most fundamental sense of identity by relating to God and other human beings. Moreover, the identity that we seek from impersonal entities such as achievement, fame, pleasure, and possessions--the hallmarks of today’s consumerist, shopping-mall existence--can be extremely inadequate and frustrating.
It is probably not very surprising that in this rather lonely environment, the Christian pursuit of worship has been made a purely individualistic endeavor. A lack of Trinitarian thinking and preaching has exacerbated the prevailing individualism of our culture and has brought it right into our Christian life and practice. If we do not think of God as a relational being in Himself, we cannot appreciate the point that we are made to reflect his image in our relationships with one another. We need to depend on one another to help us comprehend the majesty and love of God and respond in true worship as a community (Ephesians 3:14-21).
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 NIV
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

"Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler is being nominated for president of the Southern Baptist Convention -- a position that would ratify and expand his role as a spokesman for the denomination's conservative political and religious wing. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" - which is the first commandment with a promise - "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 NIV
[Lord forgive me for this... but surely you knew it was coming....]
"Tweet others... as you would have them tweet you."
Ok, I've been following some of my innovative friends who are major advocates for Twitter. It's not merely my 'monkey-see-monkey-do' mentality -- sometimes I just don't understand things right off, but I greatly respect the person strongly recommending it. [You ever do that?]
So I signed up at Twitter.com (as 'indychristian' -- what else?). And I've toyed with it from time to time, not really catching on just yet. And frankly, I'm STILL not positive I know how the Lord would want me to use it in my own personal information strategy. But again, it's because I so highly respect these guys ahead of me. So sometimes I somewhat blindly stand on their shoulders. 'Faith', huh? But not BLIND FAITH... they have a reputation of coming-through for me. [Got any friends like that?]
And btw, in the past, that's usually worked out really really well. Choose your friends wisely, my parents always told me. When I've done that, it's worked well. When I haven't, it hasn't.
Ok, so Twitter is incredibly simple. Too simple even, for me to catch onto very quickly as to why it could POSSIBLY be so valuable. If you go there and sign up, you'll see it pretty much allows you to make a one-line message available to anyone who 'follows' you... ie, your group of friends. Think of it perhaps as a status-update. "I'm headed to http://UBcafe.com", for instance. Or... "We just went live at http://AskAnythingSaturday.TV." These 'tweets' can even go through to my friends' cell-phones, if they've set it up to do so.
Seems innocuous enough. Nobody has to 'follow' you if they don't want to. So really, it's only for those who really MIGHT, for who knows what reason, WANT to 'follow' me. Funny thing though -- innovators LIKE to follow others, to see what's fresh, new and should be tried. After all, the speed of life has accelerated -- and the only good way to stay up on important matters is to collaborate with others who prioritize similarly... and share their lives with you.
Hmmm. There's bound to be a Bible lesson here somewhere.
Anyway... today perhaps I understand a little more about the value of Twitter as a quick communication tool among social-connected innovative types. I realized that it MIGHT be a great tool for quickly spreading an important message, and helping it to then spread virally further. I'll tweet a short message and cite a particular site to go to. And whoever believes it's important enough to pass it on, does so.... and adds their link at the bottom of the page being tweeted.
Example: Today I tweeted... "Tweet Others... http://cityreaching.pbwiki.com/Community+TV"... alerting them to the Community TV concept that just went LIVE... [and it's using national collaborative wiki so we could work TOGETHER on it.] If anyone cares, they can likewise pass it on, and add their link at the bottom, effectively endorsing the concept. AND... it's an indication of who are our most 'collaborative' types who like working together to reach our cities for Christ.
"Jesus, thank you for taking the weight of my sins and letting me stand on your shoulders as the only way I could ever hope to reach heaven. May I someday learn and be able to emulate your self-sacrificial nature. Amen.
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 1 Corinthians 15:22-24 NIV
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NIV
"Was woken up at 4:30 a.m. by the sms alert on my phone. Hadn’t planned on doing either, but thanks for the info.
Talked with one of the guards working in our estate. He lives in Kibera and hasn’t gotten much rest for the past week […] He is not very certain he wants to return home this evening, or that he will even have a home to go to.
I think the general consensus is that today will not end well."

Indiana General Assembly Prayer Service... Jan. 9th
[from VeritasRex.com]
"Please join us for a brief prayer service for the Indiana General Assembly at Christ's Church on the Circle in downtown Indianapolis on Wednesday, January 9, at 6 p.m.
This will be the third time we've gathered with legislators and members of our Board of Directors along with IFI prayer network members and other friends of the Institute.
The service is a relaxed, one-hour (or less) time to pray for a successful session of the General Assembly and to lift up its members as they undertake the many duties of representing us."
May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV

Ravi Zacharias International adds Hoosier as key staff
[excerpt from press release...]
"RZIM is delighted to announce the appointment of Tom Essenburg as Director of Development. Tom brings extensive experience both from the academy (having served 18 years at Taylor University) and in evangelism (for 17 years with Youth For Christ)," said Ravi Zacharias. "His relational strength, devotional heart, and integrity of life bring exactly the kind of person that RZIM seeks as a representative of its development vision to support our worldwide program, now based in nine countries and responding to invitations globally. We are grateful for his addition to our team and I am sure those who stand with this ministry will be equally delighted as they get to know Tom."
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God -- this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 NIV

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead. Acts 17:30-31 NIV

"If
you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from
his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one
in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but
in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not
only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus..." (Philippians
